HECO work to interrupt service in Pacific Palisades
About 2,000 Hawaiian Electric Co. customers in Pacific Palisades will be without power on June 20 as the utility conducts an all-day upgrade of power distribution equipment.
The outage is expected to last from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with work on the upgrade continuing until about 6:30 p.m.
“The equipment upgrades will improve grid resilience and service reliability for the Palisades area,” HECO said in a release issued on Wednesday.
HECO crews will replace six poles, including a riser utility poll that supports the circuit that feeds the Palisades neighborhood.
The riser pole replacement will involve a crane plus overhead and underground work. The crane will be parked on Aumakua Street near the intersection with Aamanu Street; one lane of traffic will be closed to accommodate the crane.
A helicopter will be used for the other pole replacements.

Residents are being told to expect brief intermittent traffic stoppages on upper Waimano Home Road and Komo Mai Drive during the helicopter overflights.
The poles and equipment will be air-lifted from Waimano Home Road near the Pearl City Cultural Center to work areas abovethe Komo Mai Drive hairpin turn leading to Pacific Palisades and along the gulch behind homes on Akaikai Loop.
Helicopter flights over Waimano Home Road are scheduled from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Flights over the Komo Mai Drive hairpin turn area will take place from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. and 2:30 to 3:30 p.m.
In addition, upgrades also will be made to pole-mounted equipment on Amoomoo Street, Apoepoe Street and Waimano HomeRoad. Parking will be restricted in these work areas.
