The Hawaii Emergency Management Agency and the Honolulu Department of Emergency Management today will test the warning siren at the Hoopili development.

The testing will occur between 9 and 11 a.m.

New developers are required by the Land Use Commission to establish outdoor warning siren coverage for public safety where there is no coverage.

Nearby residents may hear the siren sound six to eight times for varying durations.

Emergency management officials and technicians will check the siren to make sure it is properly working.

Girl, 7, injured in fall from trail

A 7-year-old girl was flown to a hospital after she fell from the ledge of a trail at Kaihalulu Beach in Hana on Tuesday.

At about 12:40 p.m., fire rescue crews responded to a report of a child who fell about 12 feet from a ledge that leads to the beach known as Red Sand Beach.

The child from La Baule, France, was vacationing on Maui with her parents.

Fire Services Chief Edward Taomoto of the Maui Fire Department said the girl fell, struck her head on rocks and lost consciousness for a short time.

Fire rescue personnel and paramedics arrived and treated the child’s injuries before her father carried her to an ambulance on Uakea Road.

She was transported to Hana Airport and flown by helicopter to Maui Memorial Medical Center in serious but stable condition.

Paia woman charged in robbery

A 26-year-old Paia woman has been charged in connection with a gas station robbery in Pukalani.

Cianna Cruz Wallace was charged with first-degree robbery. Her bail was set at $250,000.

At about 9 p.m. June 7, police said a woman entered the Chevron station’s store at 3425 Old Haleakala Highway, where she pointed a handgun at the cashier and demanded money.

Police said the woman left the store with cash and fled in a vehicle operated by a man.

Police arrested Wallace on Friday.

The alleged driver, 36-year-old Desmond Puu of Makawao, was charged June 20 with first-degree robbery. Puu’s bail was set at $250,000.
