Hawaii beats San Jose State in baseball series opener
Adam Fogel went 3-for-4 with a double and two runs scored and Alex Fitchett doubled home two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to help Hawaii defeat San Jose State 6-2 in the opener of a four-game nonconference series at Les Murakami Stadium tonight.
Brendan Hornung (2-2) scattered 11 hits in his second complete game this year for the Rainbow Warriors (12-8), who are off to the best 20-game start to a season since joining the Big West in 2013.
Josh Rojas went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs and Kekai Rios drew three of nine walks issued by San Jose State pitchers.
The Spartans (9-10) used four relievers after starter Jake Swiech (1-2) allowed three runs in 3 2/3 innings to take the loss.
Dylan Vchulek made a sliding catch in center and doubled off the runner at first to end the game.
