Tow some of the Navy’s mothballed pink fleet out of storage at Pearl Harbor and anchor them in some of the roughest waters off the islands and use them as floating prisons.

  2. Wazdat says:

WHY are we going to spend money for a new prison ? These criminals can sleep on the floor, who really cares

We have much more IMPORTANT things to fix and rebuild. The roads, schools, parks, airport, UH, etc. etc. etc.

    This is upsetting !

Because the ACLU keeps suing and it’ll cost the same anyway.

    • REB1 says:

Send them to Kahoolawe or maybe Sand Island. If the ACLU sues then shut the worthless organization down.

I understand how you feel but humane treatment of people in jail is essential to helping those wanting to reform to do so.
Prison /jail is a very tough place to be. Maybe those there deserved to be there and there are those who are terrible people who have done terrible things to
others, over and over again and they are probably not redeemable but other can be helped to change for the better. While most will never be “boy scouts” and will
always be very close to the line, treating them like animals only further dehumanize them and ourselves as well.

The consolidation, of all of the Oahu correctional facilities, in Halawa Valley, would free up all of the different lands, and keep everything centralized.

It would be cheaper, in the long run, and free up the other properties, for other devious purposes.

Build it on the Big Island.!Mauna Kea along side the Saddle Road, close to the Pohakuloa Training area! Equipped w/Enhanced Security. The Military!
It’s Far,far away from the General Population and The Big island Corrections Officers could sure use the JOBS!
Another popular idea, would be to use the inmates as Labor. Remember The Movie? “Cool Hand Luke” w/Paul Newman? They can Help Beautify the Island!

You know they would rather be doing something meaningful, than being Cooped up in a cell all day!IMUA!

    Kailua Rock.

If it has to be on Oahu then beef up Waiawa and build a high rise similar to the Bureau of Prison near the airport. Money can come from selling the land at the present OCCC location.

More evidence that Hawaii needs a two party system of governing. It’s great that the SA asks the question, but those in control will decide what to do. And you can bet it will involve tens of millions of dollars of contracts, with groups or individuals that should happen to support them politically. Here we read some creative ideas for solving what may be a fabricated issue. Tent cities would be ideal for Hawaii; if they work in AZ then they should work here. Using mothballed ships…why not…at least the prisoners couldn’t dig tunnels to escape.

Where should the Oahu Community Correctional Center be relocated and rebuilt?

This question doesn’t warrant the answer, ‘Current Halawa Correctional Facility site’ because it assumes the facility be physically moved to another location and not the present site.
