I feel that Kealoha should be removed without any compensation. But the SA’s question isn’t that ridiculous. At the moment, 48 people think it was unfair to Kealoha.
Another bad deal like many the University of Hawaii went thru! There’s no need to write special deal contracts for xtra money. Just hire em like any other regular Joe6Pack jobs, there’s always someone else that wants a high paying job! Everybody is replaceable

As of now voted with the majority. Both spouses are under investigation by the AJ office so the buy-out seems premature. By his own action he removed himself so no need to act in haste. let everything pan-out before jumping the gun. The department has capable officers to continue effectively. It has in the past!

He’ll blow 100% of on lawyers and then he’ll sign a promissory note to pay back $1 a week for the next 250,000 weeks! LOL

This is just the cost to buy out his contract. Would have been no different if they fired him, they would have still had to pay him for his last two years. I agree innocent until proven guilty. Keep him on collecting his pay, doing nothing and the story continues to plague the City. Move him along and we’ll not hear anything more about it. Unless the Feds actually arrest him or drop the case. I believe the latter will happen. Concur that someone made a bad contract 3 years ago…CALDWELL!!! This is why Public Sector unions should be abolished. Government workers should not be unionized, they work for the people…elected officials aren’t in a union even though they act like it.

Just settle for fear of going to court and losing seems to be the way to go. Only taxpayers’ money. And if he’s found guily of a felony and doesn’t pay it back, the city won’t take him to court as there is the possibily of losing and costing us more.

Before giving any buyout, the commission chair Mr. Sword should have conducted an administrative review to determine whether or not that the chief may have violated any laws, administrative rules or police department’s Standards of Conduct before allowing any buyout to Chief Kealoha which is what commission member Ms Sheehan wanted. Lower level police department employees are subject to this process when any accusations of misconduct discovered and if it’s found out to be true then appropriate disciplinary actions are taken which can range from reprimand to termination of employment. Chief Kealoha should have been held to the same standard as the rank and file officers instead of being sent on his merry way with a sizable chunk of public funds while once again the taxpayers are left holding the bag….
