Agreed. No option for letting it rot and replace with green space for public use.

Think small, build small, be small. Hawaii’s mentality.
Because we live on small island in the middle of the Pacific, it makes sense to think small. Big means waste.

where’s the tear it down option?
What do you mean by tear the stadium down? Don’t replace with a new structure? Build one on the University of Hawaii campus? Does that mean that UH should eliminate football or the chances to host a Hula Bowl, Pro Bowl, a Polynesian Bowl, or any special professional soccer exhibitions? Is Hawaii delusional in thinking that someday it can host professional sports, elite NCAA Division I teams, or entertainment superstars from the US or Asia as did Aloha stadiums in the past?
Those “tear it down” people are unrealistic. Probably the same people who say “lock ’em up and throw away the key” when a suspect is apprehended. Not helpful at all.
If the State is going to commit to supporting UH Athletics, then maintain the current stadium until the Stadium is routinely filled, then consider a new, large Stadium. If jj had remained as coach, there would be no discussion of a smaller stadium. Plainly the elder makes an excellent point, if the rail and potential stadium projects are juxtaposed, the inconsistency in not supporting a large, potentially profitable stadium compared with the albatross called Rail, becomes obvious. The State Legislature should be debating both issues, but a debate requires opposition, which isn’t available with a one-party system. The legislature can remain silent with no consequences.
Sell Aloha stadium for scrap… sell the land for development… take the money and build a new stadium out near West Hawaii campus where there will be MORE PARKING.
No need parking…the Rail Fail can service it and guarantee some ridership a few days out of the year!!!

Yes wiliki, we can make it all better by telling the mayor to INVEST the ERS pension funds into rebuilding the stadium and turning it into a rail central station so they can finally announce that they plan build out spurs from it to all the other islands.
Certainly rail will change the rules of the game. Why not discuss this issue instead of ignoring it.

IRT Wazdat: If, and that’s a big if, the State commits to the team (facilities, half-times, uniforms, band, mascots, recruiting, coaches, $$$$), the 50k figure is obtainable. Check out the 27k seat “Stubhub” Stadium in Los Angeles. If configured with 2 decks, and individual seating, it would be ideal, especially to withstand the weather. But nothing should be done if they’re not going to commit to UH.
