UH rallies past Long Beach for OT win

Hawaii center Ido Flaisher congratulated Hawaii guard Noah Allen after tonight’s overtime win.

Noah Allen made a tying layup at the regulation buzzer as Hawaii rallied in thrilling fashion to beat Long Beach State 114-107 in overtime tonight at the Stan Sheriff Center.

Breakout performances up and down the UH roster carried the Rainbow Warriors to the comeback from 13 points down in the second half in a rematch of the teams in the 2016 Big West championship game.

UH (7-9, 1-2 Big West) avoided its first 0-3 start to BWC play in front of a crowd of 3,834. It tied UH’s seventh-highest point total in program history. It was their first 100-point game since Jan. 18, 2014, vs. UC Riverside.

Three players had career highs of 25 points apiece: Allen, freshman Leland Green and sophomore Jack Purchase. Freshman forward Zigmars Raimo scored a season-high 11 points on 5-for-5 shooting.

UH’s Sheriff Drammeh tied it up at 89 on two free throws with 22.8 seconds left in regulation. After a timeout, Justin Bibbins drained clock until about five seconds remained and drove left into the lane. Drammeh was called for a foul with 3.1 seconds left and Bibbins made both for a two-point lead for LBSU (6-14, 1-3).

UH called timeout to set up a play. Gibson Johnson threw the inbounds pass to Allen near midcourt. Allen drove the right side of the lane and finger-rolled it off the glass just before the backboard light went red.

The ’Bows kept it going in OT. Green collected the tip and scored a three-point play, fouling out Bibbins in the process. Purchase followed it up with his seventh 3 for a six-point lead. LBSU never got closer than four points the rest of the way.

lost 2 regular season games last year to long beach with the good team we had last year, this team did real good against them this year, good win warriors.

This game proved a lot: That they’re capable of scoring lots of points, that they can come from behind to win, that they can overachieve and they can perform well under pressure. Didn’t realize until I read this article that last year’s prolific team never cracked the 100-point barrier.

    Game of the year!

Noah Allen’s game tying layup at the buzzer was an unbelievable play-shot because there were only 3.1 seconds on the game clock. What made it special was how he took the in-bound pass and ran down the court past everyone to make the layup in 3 seconds.

Great to see Noah Allen have the type of game he’s capable of. He also played great D, especially on #3, who barely got any shots off after UH put Allen on him.

This is a perfect example of athletic justice served to a hardworking team (players and coaching staff) who are most deserving.

It;s amazing how a team can transformed into a steadied one for the entire game just to go into OT then, scored a record-breaking 23 points, winning by 7.

Thanks for a joyous, memorable weekend and a signature-game for the TEAM!!
