Her dream wedding was a beach-themed affair set on a beautiful shoreline in Hawaii.
His mirrored the final scene in Episode IV of “Star Wars” when Princess Leia awards medals to Luke Skywalker and Han Solo for their bravery.
But both Karie, 37, and Marc Sevigny, 32, saw their wedding-day dreams fulfilled on July 26, 2014, at Kualoa Ranch, with nuptials on the sand, bouquets of white daisies and roses, and a “Star Wars” cake and centerpieces.
At the time, the two lived at Marine Corps Base Hawaii. She planned the wedding while her fiance, a Navy corpsman, was on a six-month deployment.
“I felt no need to make our wedding be about me; rather, I wanted a beautiful wedding that included the things Marc loved,” Karie Sevigny said in an email. “I’ve always loved ‘Star Wars’ but not as much as Marc.”
The wedding cake by A Baked Romance was covered in white fondant and adorned with the replicas of the Millennium Falcon, the Death Star and starfighters cascading down a ribbon. Other details included terrarium centerpieces containing “Star Wars” Lego figures, a photo booth with life-size cutouts of R2D2 and C-3PO, and themed cocktails.
On the morning of the wedding, the bride gave the groom custom cuff links that said “I love you” and “I know,” a reference to the farewell exchange between Princess Leia and Han Solo in “The Empire Strikes Back.”
The men walked to their positions accompanied by “The Imperial March (Darth Vader’s Theme),” and the bride wore her hair in a braided style — without the rolled buns — as a nod to Princess Leia. They cut their wedding cake with a “lightsaber” knife.
The couple now reside on the East Coast and recently welcomed a baby girl, Emma.
For their July 18 wedding at the Hale Koa Hotel, Wendy Ueda, 40, and Shawn Hiyane, 42, of Honolulu invited guests to dress in “Star Wars”-themed attire. Darth Vader and a member of the Imperial Red Guard (portrayed by actors from The Pacific Outpost of the 501st Legion, a “Star Wars” service organization) stood by during the ceremony and welcomed the couple with a lightsaber salute when they made their formal entrance to the reception.
“We joked about it at first, but then people seemed to really jump on board and got excited and wanted to dress up also,” said Ueda.
The bride wore custom “Star Wars”-inspired sneakers along with a formal white gown and pearls, while the groom wore a yellow “Star Wars” print bow tie and R2D2 cuff links with his tux. The green cymbidium and purple calla lily bouquets were attached to “Star Wars” Lego key chains. The cake topper featured Han Solo and Princess Leia.
