Escaped work furlough inmate arrested in Waikiki

Kiana Kaauwai, an extended furlough inmate, was reported missing, Tuesday afternoon, from the YWCA Fernhurst work furlough home in Makiki.

Police have arrested a 30-year-old furlough inmate in Waikiki after she was reported missing from the YWCA Fernhurst work furlough home in Makiki.

Kiana Kaauwai, a Women’s Community Correctional Center inmate who is in the extended furlough program, was reported missing from the furlough home just before 1 p.m. Tuesday.

The Hawaii Department of Public Safety said she was not authorized to leave the site.

Kaauwai is serving time for first-degree burglary.

Police arrested her at or near the Waikiki Beachcomber by Outrigger on Kalakaua Avenue at 9:45 p.m. Tuesday on suspicion of second-degree escape.
