Scoot to end Honolulu flights in June due to lack of demand

A Scoot jet arrives at Daniel K. Inouye International Airport in December 2017.

A low-cost airline that began flying four times a week between Singapore and Honolulu nearly a year ago is discontinuing the service in June.

Scoot, an arm of Singapore Airlines Group, cited weak demand in announcing on the Singapore Airlines website the plan to stop flying to Honolulu.

The change is part of a shuffling of service by Scoot over the next two years as it takes over routes from SilkAir, which is being merged into Singapore Airlines.

Scoot made its inaugural flight to Honolulu in early December. It used a 329-seat Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner on the route.

At the time, Scoot said one-way fares from Honolulu to Singapore typically would start at about $400, and one-way fares to Osaka would start at $240.

The Honolulu flights marked the carrier’s first service to the United States.
