It’s interesting to note that of the endorsements from the Star-Advertiser for Democrats, it missed the people’s choice in two important races.
Former Rep. Marilyn Lee (House District 36, Mililani) was endorsed even though Republican Val Okimoto seemed a better fit for the area. Okimoto won by more than 800 votes.
Democrat Rep. Matt LoPresti was attempting a leap from state House to state Senate (Senate District 19, Ewa, Ewa Beach) against a longtime resident and community organizer, Republican Kurt Fevella.
Even after LoPresti demonstrated a lack of ethics by stealing campaign literature and was caught on camera, he was still endorsed as the best candidate. Fevella won by 117 votes out of more than 12,000 votes cast.
It’s inspiring to know that the voters of an area know what candidate better serves their needs than a publication pushing its own political agenda.
