I disagree with the statement that Hawaii needs more Republican voices (“Hawaii needs more Republican voices,” Star-Advertiser, Letters, Oct. 22).
Nowhere do we need more Republican voices. The Republicans passed a huge tax cut for the rich and now that the deficit has mushroomed, they want to cut Social Security and Medicare. That was their plan all along; make the rich richer and cut benefits for seniors and the disabled.
It is bad enough here in Hawaii, where the poor are already disproportionately taxed by the state (“State’s poor face heavy tax burden, study finds,” Star-Advertiser, Oct. 22). We do not need more of a political party that wants to repeal the Affordable Care Act and take away coverage for pre-existing conditions in health care.
Hawaii is an island state where global climate change can have a catastrophic effect, yet Republican voices want to deny and deter any efforts to mitigate climate changes. We need fewer Republican voices and more Democratic voices.
