The state Health Department issued brown water advisories this morning for Kailua Bay, Waimanalo Beach Park and Waimanalo Bay State Recreational Area on Oahu after rains resulted in stormwater runoff entering into coastal waters.

Early this afternoon, the department also issued a brown water advisory for Pounders Beach in Laie, Oahu.

The public is advised to stay out of flood waters and storm water runoff due to possible overflowing cesspools, sewer, manholes, pesticides, animal fecal matter, dead animals, pathogens, chemicals, and associated flood debris. While not all coastal areas may be impacted by runoff, the public is generally advised to stay out if the water is brown, to practice good, personal hygiene and follow up with a primary care physician with health concerns.
