An Oahu grand jury today indicted a 21-year-old Bible college student and school janitor with multiple counts of sexual assault involving a 14-year-old girl in Kaneohe.

Shawn O’Regan was indicted with two counts of first-degree sexual assault involving a person between 14 and 16 years old, four counts of third-degree sexual assault, and two counts of promoting pornography for minors.

His bail was set at $300,000.

The alleged assaults occurred in a janitor’s closet at the Koolau Baptist Church & Academy in Kaneohe in the afternoon of Oct. 5 during the school’s Fun Fair 2018 event, according to court documents. Later that night, the victim’s mother discovered text messages on her daughter’s tablet that contained nude photos sent by and of O’Regan to the girl, prosecutors allege.

Court documents said nude photos of the victim sent to O’Regan were also discovered on the tablet where the mother found messages from him repeatedly asking the girl to send images of herself.

Police arrested O’Regan Sunday at 45-633 Keneke St., the address for the church, school and the affiliated Hawaii Baptist College.

The Rev. Skip Woodfin, pastor of Koolau Baptist Church and president of the Koolau Baptist Academy, said O’Regan resided in a dorm on campus and is enrolled in a work-study program at the college that teaches gospel ministry. He conducted janitorial work on the property in exchange for rent.

Woodfin said he and the ministry are heartbroken over the alleged assaults. “This is our worst nightmare.”
