Prosecutors have charged a 21-year-old Bible college student of Kaneohe in connection with alleged sexual assaults involving a minor.
Shawn O’Regan was charged Tuesday with two counts of first-degree sexual assault involving a minor who is at least 14 years old but younger than 16, two counts of third-degree
sexual assault and one count of promoting pornography for minors that include dissemination of pornographic material to a minor.
His aggregate bail is set at $300,000.
Police arrested O’Regan at 45-633 Keneke St. — the address for Koolau Baptist Church &Academy and the Hawaii Baptist College, which is affiliated with the church — at approximately 1:20 p.m. Sunday.
A police spokeswoman declined to comment on the case because it involves a
juvenile.
Court documents indicated the alleged sexual assaults that involve a female teenager occurred Oct. 5, and the dissemination of pornographic material to the minor occurred on or between Sept. 28 and Oct. 5.
The location of the sexual assaults is unclear at this time.
The Rev. Skip Woodfin, pastor of Koolau Baptist Church and president of the Koolau Baptist Academy, said although police provided him little information on the case, they did tell him “it was not a forced attack.”
The suspect, a former student of Koolau Baptist
Academy, is enrolled in a work-study program at the Hawaii Baptist College that teaches gospel ministry. Prior to his arrest, he resided in a dorm on campus and conducted maintenance work on the property in
exchange for rent.
According to Woodfin, the suspect is not a teacher or assistant at Koolau Baptist Academy and does not hold any type of job position at the church or school that
involves supervision of children.
Police arrested O’Regan on Sunday on suspicion of two counts of first-degree sex assault, two counts of third-degree sex assault, one count of second-degree terroristic threatening and one count of promoting minor-produced sexual images in the first degree.
The Koolau Baptist Church &Academy sent
letters to parents of students informing them of the arrest and charges against O’Regan.
“We are cooperating with authorities to the fullest
extent,” Woodfin said. “Our first priority is the safety of our students.”
