In response to the numerous television advertisements and news articles regarding the dire need for public school teachers in Hawaii, I propose someone look into the practice of not rehiring educated, experienced teachers in Hawaii who have had a negative experience with the Educator Effectiveness System (EES) of evaluating teachers.
A teacher in Hawaii can have a stellar career with the commendations to prove it and yet, all it takes is one misguided administrator to bring what was an outstanding teacher to his or her knees.
I am a retired public school teacher who thankfully was able to simply teach with caring guidance from good administrators.
There are reasons it is difficult to keep good teachers in Hawaii, and I propose EES is just one of them.
The EES system of evaluating teachers needs a checks and balances system so that well-qualified persons are not blackballed by one evaluator.
