Our U.S. Sen. Mazie Hirono has been in the news often lately, interviewed about our errant president and more recently about Judge Brett Kavanaugh, accused of sexual assault. She makes us proud, especially when she stands up for minorities, including women, against the all-male, all-white, misogynist Senate Republican members of the Judiciary Committee, dubbed “Trump’s boys.”
Jim Wolery said he was embarrassed when Hirono stood up for the victim, who was being treated unfairly, and told the men of America to “shut up and step up” (“Hirono’s comments an embarrassment,” Star-Advertiser, Letters, Sept. 21). I applaud her for her guts, calling it like it is. She made all Hawaii proud.
E ho‘omau, Sen. Hirono — do what is right. We’re proud of you, standing up for the victim, the underdog.
