Honolulu-based ocean cargo transportation firm Matson Inc. plans to start serving one of the most remote islands in the Pacific next week.
The company announced a new scheduled service every two months to Christmas Island in the Republic of Kiribati starting Sept. 25.
The new service to the island also known as Kiritimati will be an extension of Matson’s South Pacific Express service, which is based in New Zealand and serves Samoa, American Samoa, Tahiti, the Cook Islands, Tonga, Niue and Fiji.
Dojin Co. Ltd., a container shipping agency on Christmas Island, will serve as Matson’s exclusive agent.

Hilton Waikiki Beach has hired Jamie Choi as the new director of sales and marketing of Hilton Waikiki Beach. Choi’s experience with Hilton’s worldwide portfolio includes having served as director of sales and marketing at Embassy Suites by Hilton Waikiki Beach Walk prior and DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Alana.
D.R. Horton Hawaii has announced that Alan K. Arakawa has become its new vice president of planning and acquisitions. Arakawa has nearly 30 years’ experience as an executive in land and residential development, including having previously served as a senior vice president of planning and entitlement as well as senior vice president of development at Alexander & Baldwin.
IQ 360 has hired Kara Fujita Jovic as brand director at its Honolulu office. Jovic has more than 15 years’ experience in advertising, branding and creative direction, including having previously founded Creative Sages.
