Missing work furlough inmate back in OCCC custody

A missing Laumaka work furlough inmate was returned to Oahu Community Correctional Center custody this evening.

Dennis Sonoda, who was serving time for assault and auto theft, turned himself in to police this morning, and was returned to OCCC custody at 5:45 p.m. today, the Department of Public Safety said in a news release.

He had failed to return Sunday ot the Laumaka Work Furlough Center.

Sonoda was scheduled for a parole hearing in October.

He now faces an escape charge.

The Public Safety Department said Sonoda is a community custody inmate, the lowest security classification, with pass privileges.
