Gov. David Ige left Hawaii Tuesday for a five-day vacation to Washington state, where two of his children attend college.
He is scheduled to return Sunday.
His office issued a news release Tuesday saying he will be spending time with his family and “to recharge following a strenuous few months leading up to the primary election. “
Ige won the Democratic nomination for governor Saturday, beating out U.S. Rep. Colleen Hanabusa.
Lt. Gov. Doug Chin will serve as acting governor until Thursday, when he travels out of state. Attorney General Russell Suzuki will take over as acting governor until Ige returns.
