Honolulu’s two competing cable entities, Hawaiian Telcom and Spectrum, are offering a home-heavy pay-per-view package of seven of the University of Hawaii’s 13 regular-season football games this season.
That is one more PPV offering than 2017, when six of the Rainbow Warriors’ 12 games were available.
This season’s remaining six games — three on CBS Sports Network, two on ESPN and one expected to be on the BYUtv channel— will be available without PPV, depending on the viewer’s TV package.
The PPV lineup will begin with the third game of the season, UH’s Sept. 8 home nonconference game against Rice, and also include games with Duquesne, San Jose State, Wyoming, Nevada, Utah State and Nevada-Las Vegas. All but the San Jose State game are home contests.
Individual games are $75, with the full seven-game package priced at $405. A seven-game “early bird” reduced offering is $375, but must be purchased by Aug. 31.
In addition, with proof of season-ticket status, fans may purchase the San Jose State road game for $35.
Spectrum has neighbor island pricing at $45 for individual games, $245 for the seven-game season package and $225 for the reduced “early bird” slate.
In addition to its PPV offering in Hawaii, Spectrum said it and the Mountain West Conference will combine to offer viewers outside the state access to live game streams via the Mountain West app on mobile devices (phones and tablets).
PPV is one of the major revenue streams for UH, which is contracted to receive a minimum of $2,489,594 this season from Spectrum providing at least seven games are made available to the carrier. UH is eligible to receive more if various PPV revenue target levels are met.
Last year, when the minimum was to have been $2,440,778, $400,000 was deducted because only six games were available.
