Water main break closes section of Date Street in Kapahulu

Board of Water Supply crews worked to repair a broken 30-inch transmission main on Date Street in Kapahulu Wednesday morning.

A section of Date Street between Kapahulu and Kamuela avenues remained closed this morning due to a broken water main.

The break, reported shortly after midnight, is on a 30-inch transmission main, according to the Board of Water Supply. Water service in the area was not affected. However, residents in the Diamond Head-Kapahulu area are being asked to use water only for essential needs — drinking, cooking, and personal sanitation, Honolulu Board of Water Supply officials said.

Because of the repair work, no left turns are allowed from Kapahulu or Kamuela onto Date Street.

Drivers should avoid the area if possible and use alternate traffic routes, officials said.
