The Hawaii State Teachers Association and the Hawaii Regional Council of Carpenters are endorsing Democrat Josh Green to be the state’s next lieutenant governor.
HSTA President Corey Rosenlee and carpenters union Executive Secretary and Treasurer Ronald Taketa made the joint announcement Sunday.
The two unions have different picks for governor. HSTA is backing incumbent Gov. David Ige for a second term. The carpenters union is throwing its support behind Colleen Hanabusa.
Visitor Industry Charity Walk draws 7,000
The 40th annual Visitor Industry Charity Walk in Honolulu drew 7,000 walkers and volunteers Saturday contributing to a statewide effort that is expected to raise more than $2.5 million for local charities.
Sponsored by the Hawaii Lodging & Tourism Association, Honolulu’s charity walk was the last in a series that began May 5 on Lanai and Molokai. Walks also were held May 12 on Hawaii island, Kauai and Maui.
Since its inception the charity walk has raised more than $28 million, including a record $2.7 million last year.
