Police opened a kidnapping investigation Friday after a 15-year-old boy said he was snatched by two unknown men and driven around Wahiawa for several hours before being released. The boy told police he was walking near Uuku and Nakula streets close to Leilehua High School at about 6 p.m. Friday when a vehicle pulled up alongside him. He said one of the men got out and forced him into the vehicle before the other man drove them around for several hours while asking for money. The boy said the two men, in their 30s, released him unharmed at about 10 p.m.
Woman dies after Waikiki swim
A woman died Saturday after being pulled from the water at Kuhio Beach Park in Waikiki at about 5:45 a.m. Police performed CPR on the woman, believed to be about 65 years old, before an ambulance took her to Straub Medical Center, where she died at about 9 a.m.
Hiker rescued on Diamond Head
A Honolulu Fire Department helicopter was dispatched to the Diamond Head Crater trail Saturday afternoon to rescue a hiker who had fallen and become disoriented. Soon after the incident was reported at 12:44 p.m., HFD personnel on the ground headed up the trail, reaching the injured man near the top at 1:10 p.m. The hiker, reported to be in his 20s, was assessed and treated while HFD’s Air1 helicopter dropped two rescuers to secure the man in a litter. He was then airlifted to a landing zone in the crater parking lot and transferred to Emergency Medical Services by 1:23 p.m., HFD said. No further details were immediately available.
