‘Magnum, P.I.’ is back in the islands
On-island filming of a pilot for the reboot of “Magnum, P.I.” is slated for the next few weeks. Behind the cameras and on the set will be many members of the crew that has put together the “Hawaii Five-O” reboot, now in its eighth season of production.
At a blessing event held at Hawaii Film Studio at Diamond Head, officials lauded such shows for creating, in addition to small-screen entertainment, hundreds of jobs. A typical series production pumps about $80 million annually in direct spending into the economy. Perhaps it’s time for the state to consider tweaking its tax credit for film production, which expires at the end of the year, to maximize local benefits.
