The Hawaii Pacific women’s basketball team fell one spot to N0. 22 in this week’s Women’s Basketball Coaches Association Division II Coaches Top 25 released Tuesday.
The Sharks (24-3, 18-2 PacWest) lost an 81-63 home contest last Thursday to Azusa Pacific, which climbed to No. 16. The two teams finished the regular season as PacWest co-champions.
The Sharks have earned a first-round bye in the PacWest conference tournament in Riverside, Calif., and automatically advance to the semifinals. HPU will play the winner of California Baptist and Dominican on Friday at 10:30 a.m.
Biola shuts out Chaminade
The Biola softball team routed Chaminade 12-0 in a six-inning mercy-rule victory on Tuesday at Central Oahu Regional Park.
The Eagles (16-3, 3-0 PacWest) amassed 15 hits, led by Jay Perez’s three hits and four RBIs, which included a triple and a home run. Terri Van Dagens tossed a shutout, allowing just four hits and striking out five, improving to 5-0 this season.
Malia Kaakimaka, a freshman from Campbell, led the Silverswords (3-7, 0-3) with two hits.
Hawaii Hilo finishes 12th at Bay Area Invite
The Hawaii Hilo men’s golf team finished play at the Bay Area Invitational in 12th place out of 16 teams in Livermore, Calif., with a three-round team total of 112-over 976.
Taylor Patrick was the top individual performer for the Vulcans, finishing 31st overall with a three-round total of 22-over 238. Zach Sims of Holy Names took the individual title with a 6-over 222, but the Hawks finished in second with a 52-over 916. Sonoma State won the team title with a 42-over 906.
