Grammy nominee Josh Tatofi, center, autographed a copy of his Grammy-nominated album “Pua Kiele” on Jan. 17. Tatofi and Ho’okena lost the Grammy award to Cajun band Lost Bayou Ramblers.
“Kalenda,” the eighth album by the Lost Bayou Ramblers, was named winner of the Grammy Award for best regional roots album during the nontelevised portion of the 60th Annual Grammy Awards on Sunday at Madison Square Garden in New York.
The Cajun music quintet prevailed over Hawaii nominees Ho‘okena (“3.0”) and Josh Tatofi (“Pua Kiele”) and two other finalists. It was the sixth time since the category was established in 2011 that the award was won by a Cajun or zydeco album.
The regional roots music category was created as a catch-all for Hawaiian, Native American, polka, Cajun and zydeco music.
