The University of Hawaii will receive its largest contracted guarantee ever for a road game, $1.3 million, for a 2026 football appearance at Arizona State.
The previous high was $1.1 million for the 2015 game at Ohio State. UH’s other million-dollar paydays were at Wisconsin (2015) and Michigan (2016). UH pays its travel expenses out of the guarantee.
The Sept. 19, 2026 game will mark UH’s first trip to Tempe, Ariz., since 1958. It will be the first meeting between the two schools overall since the 2006 Hawaii Bowl.
ASU, which is not scheduled to play in Honolulu, leads the series 5-2.
In addition, UH has added a home-and-home series with New Mexico State, with the Aggies coming to Aloha Stadium in 2020 and UH going to Las Cruces, N.M., in 2021.
The Rainbow Warriors lead the series 8-0.
In other changes, the 2020 game at Arizona will be moved to Aug. 29 in Tucson. It had originally been scheduled for Sept. 5, 2020.
UH said it has also added single games versus Football Championship Subdivision teams Portland State in 2021 (Sept. 4) and Duquesne in 2022 (Sept. 20). Both games will be played in Honolulu.
Swish host Vipers tonight in ABA game
The Hawaii Swish seek to remain unbeaten in American Basketball Association action while hosting the Chicago Vipers at 7:30 tonight at the Blaisdell Arena.
The semi-pro Swish, who topped the Southwest Atlanta Warriors 126-83 in their only other game this season, are hopeful they can qualify for the ABA playoffs despite their short, five-game schedule.
“I think we have the tools to do it this year. Guys have more confidence than last year,” said forward Leon Ballard, a Chaminade alum who helped the Swish to a 4-0 mark in their debut year of 2017. “I really think we have an opportunity of sweeping the whole entire table.”
Said coach Artie Wilson: “We want to represent Hawaii in a pretty cool way in the ABA. … It’s up-tempo, it’s exciting basketball.”
General admission tickets are $15 for adults and $5 for children and are available at ticketmaster.com and the Blaisdell box office.
