Bikeshare Hawaii says Biki ridership in the second three-month period of the program matched the first three months.
Biki logged 180,457 rides in October, November and December, compared to 180,272 during July, August and September.
A Biki spokeswoman said the organization was pleased that ridership didn’t decline after an initial period when curious riders were testing out the program.
Nearly two-thirds, or 231,414, of all Biki rides were taken by Oahu residents, as indicated by the zip code reported for each of those trips.
“We are encouraged to see that ridership continues to grow,” said Lori McCarney, CEO of Bikeshare
Hawaii in a press release. “It illustrates without a doubt we are fulfilling our mission to provide a viable transportation option for both kamaaina and visitors. We’re especially delighted to see that the majority of trips are made by residents, not visitors. We know that many visitors arrive here already familiar with bike-share in their home cities. Seeing residents learn about and adopt Biki so quickly makes us proud.”
Bikeshare Hawaii, a Honolulu-based nonprofit, launched Biki in late June of last year, offering about 1,000 turquoise-colored bikes for rent at 100 stations from Diamond Head to Chinatown.
