The University of Hawaii football team’s leading receiver will not return for his senior season.
Dylan Collie, who played slot and wideout, announced on Twitter that he is set to earn a bachelor’s degree in May and will transfer to another program. Collie could not be reached for comment, but teammates and coaches confirmed Collie’s decision.
“I want to thank all my coaches, teammates and support staff at the University of Hawaii for the wonderful experiences I’ve had over the last 3 years,” Collie tweeted to his 1,616 followers “With that said, I have decide(d) that it’s in mine and my family’s best interest to finish my college football career elsewhere and further my academic studies following graduation this May.”
A graduate student may transfer to another FBS school without redshirting. Collie did not indicate his next destination, but he and his wife are members of the Mormon church, which administers Brigham Young University.
Collie redshirted at BYU in 2012 before going on a two-year church mission. After securing a scholarship release, he transferred to UH in 2015. Collie’s father, Scott, was at BYU when Norm Chow was an assistant coach. Chow was UH’s head coach for 31⁄2 seasons before he was dismissed with four games remaining in the 2015 season. Collie’s two older brothers also played at BYU.
“I look forward to seeing where I will continue to play the sport I love and where I will start working toward my graduate degree,” Collie tweeted.
Last season, Collie played in all 12 UH games, starting 10. He led the Rainbow Warriors with 56 receptions and was second with 636 receiving yards. He had 29 catches resulting in first downs, including 11 on third down.
