American Savings Bank announced Wednesday the winners of its Bank for Education KeikiCo Business Plan Competition and is donating a total of $190,000 to 17 local schools for demonstrating excellence in business planning and creativity.
The bank, which received 200 entries from 30 schools across the state, started the competition in 2015 and holds it every other year. The contest invites students in teams of two to four to share their best ideas for a chance to win cash prizes for their school, ranging from $2,500 to $25,000.
The winners are:

Man sought for questioning in terroristic case
Hawaii County police are asking for the public’s help in finding a Kau man wanted for questioning in a terroristic threatening and criminal property damage investigation.
Police identified Jeffery Belanio Jr. while investigating complaints. He is known to frequent Ocean View and South Kona and drives a purple Toyota 4Runner with Hawaii license plate number ZAJ075.
Anyone with information concerning Belanio is asked to call Officer James Lorenzo at 939-2520 or the police non-emergency number at 935-3311.

Fire chars restaurant and bar in Kapaa
Kauai firefighters extinguished a fire at a restaurant and bar in Kapaa Tuesday morning.
The Kauai Fire Department said a fire broke out shortly before 6:45 a.m. Tuesday at Sam’s Ocean View Restaurant and Bar.
Police saw smoke and flames coming from the restaurant and immediately evacuated people to a hostel next door.
The fire was contained and fully extinguished shortly after 8 a.m.
The fire department said the fire was contained in the kitchen and attic, and a broken water pipe flooded the kitchen.
The damage is estimated to be about $100,000.
Police closed Kuhio Highway for about 30 minutes and diverted traffic until it was reopened at 7:30 a.m.
