Opening to rave reviews, “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” is this year’s must-see franchise movie. After Thursday night’s preview screening, which churned out box office numbers second only to those generated two years ago by its prequel, “Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” the movie opened in 4,100 U.S. theaters, including 13 on Oahu. The force is strongest with Consolidated Theatres Ward, now screening it 25 times daily.
The Force is strong with ‘Last Jedi’
The top three suggestions from a recent survey of Aloha Stadium visitors conducted during the University of Hawaii’s football season, and focused on football games: Upgrade sound system, screen more video replays (fewer ads) and expand Wi-Fi availability in the 50,000-seat facility.
All are cheap-and-easy fixes compared with the No. 4 pick: New stadium. A governor-appointed panel is eyeing a 30,000- to 35,000-seat replacement that costs an estimated $324.5 million in current dollars. It asserts that big-ticket spending is preferable to tackling a backlog of deferred maintenance.
