Dacosta lifts Vulcan women to victory
Danielle Dacosta scored 19 points, including the go-ahead 3-pointer with 52 seconds remaining, as the Hawaii Hilo women’s basketball team beat Biola 63-59 on Saturday at Waiakea High School.
Safia Sheikh added 18 points for the Vulcans (2-1, 1-0 PacWest).
Dacosta’s shot put Hilo ahead 59-57. The Eagles (1-5, 0-2) missed a 3-pointer with one second remaining and Sheikh made one of two free throws with under a second remaining for the final margin.
DeMoria White scored 14 points for Biola.

Sakamoto tied for 18th at LPGA qualifying
Honolulu’s Nicole Sakamoto is tied for 18th at 1-under-par 287 after Saturday’s fourth round of the LPGA Qualifying Tournament in Daytona Beach, Fla.
Hilo’s Britney Yada is tied for 49th at 290, Kyung Kim, a former Maui resident, is tied for 111th at 298 and Honolulu’s Stephanie Kono is tied for 130th at 300
The top 20 at the end of the five-day, 90-hole tournament will secure full LPGA status. Those finishing 21st to 45th earn conditional status.
