Kapiolani Medical Center for Women & Children is opening a new emergency room Dec. 5 as part of the hospital’s $180 million Diamond Head Tower.
The hospital will host a blessing and open house Thursday of the facility, which is twice as big as the current emergency department with 24 private treatment rooms, including two for trauma and two for triage.
The 14,000-square-foot ER will have an on-site radiology suite for X-rays and offer separate adult and pediatric waiting rooms.
Kapiolani’s emergency room currently averages 45,000 patient visits each year, with about two-thirds being children.
The hospital said it is still exploring options for the existing ER space.
