Police are searching for a man who robbed a Kapiolani bank branch on Wednesday morning.
The American Savings Bank branch at 1600 Kapiolani Blvd. was robbed at about 10:35 a.m., when a man approached a teller with a note demanding money. Police said there was no mention of a weapon and none was seen. The suspect fled on foot in an unknown direction with an undisclosed amount of money.
He is described as a slim Caucasian male with short, straight brown hair, in his late 20s, between 5-feet-8-inches and 6 feet tall, 140 to 160 pounds. He was wearing black sunglasses, a dark polo shirt, black long pants, and red and black athletic shoes. He was also carrying a black backpack, police said.

Kauai man gets 5-year term for abuse
A 32-year-old Waimea man was sentenced Wednesday to 5 years in prison for domestic violence.
Kauai County Prosecuting Attorney Justin F. Kollar announced in a press release that Eldred B. Silva Jr. was ordered to prison for biting, choking and punching his girlfriend in June 2016 at the couple’s home. Circuit Judge Kathleen N.A. Watanabe handed down the sentence.
Silva has a previous criminal history, including convictions in 2015 for felony domestic abuse in the presence of a minor, misdemeanor convictions for assault in 2013, unlawful imprisonment in 2012, and domestic abuse in 2006, according to Kollar’s press release.
“Today, this defendant’s violent history caught up to him. Domestic violence is one of the most serious problems facing this community,” Kollar said. “Our office will continue to vigorously prosecute offenders who perpetrate this cycle of violence upon their intimate partners and loved ones.”
