Motorcyclist in H-1 crash dies
High speed was a factor in a fatal motorcycle accident Saturday morning on the H-1 freeway in Kapolei, police said.
A 22-year-old Aiea man was exiting the freeway when he lost control while turning right onto Kalaeloa Boulevard at about 1:15 a.m, police said. The motorcyclist was ejected on the road after crossing over the grass median and colliding with another vehicle.
The man, who was wearing a helmet, was taken to an area hospital in critical condition where he later died.
Police said it is unknown if alcohol was a factor in the accident — it is still under investigation.
There have been 19 traffic fatalities this year compared to 18 in 2016 around the same time, police said.
