The latest memorial to Hawaii’s late U.S. senator is his state’s largest airport, which last week was officially renamed the Daniel K. Inouye International Airport.
In 2016, the state Legislature adopted House Concurrent Resolution 88, which requested the state Department of Transportation to redesignate Honolulu International Airport. The identifying code still remains HNL, although the other signs will have to be replaced. Let’s hope Inouye has left some of his funding magic dust behind so that process fares better than the rest of the airport’s long-stalled renovation.
Vote for your neighborhood board — it’s important
Oahu’s neighborhood board system serves as a sort of glue that binds together the island’s citizenry with elected officials, business owners, developers, nonprofits and other community organizations. Informed voter participation in the ongoing board seats election can make that adhesive stronger and more effective. The boards serve as an advisory sounding board on neighborhood matters — from park hours and street lighting to highrise development.
Take a look at candidate profiles, www2.honolulu.gov/nbe/candidateprofiles.php. (Registered voters were mailed letters with directions for casting ballots online.) Voting ends May 19. Remember: No vote, no grumble.
