Hawaiian Electric Co. is seeking 3.1 million gallons of sustainably produced, renewable biofuel per year for three years to power biofuel-capable power plants on Oahu.
The fuel will be used primarily in the new 50-megawatt Schofield Generating Station being built in central Oahu. HECO prefers local biofuel, but proposals will be accepted from any supplier able to meet required volume and delivery deadlines.
The deadline for proposals is June 16, with the goal of submitting a proposed contract to the state Public Utilities Commission for approval by November and having fuel available no later than November 2018. The request for proposals is available at: hawaiianelectric.com/biofuelsupply.
