TJ Kua fired a bogey-free 7-under-par 65 on Friday to take the lead in the second round of the Mid-Pacific Open at Mid-Pacific Country Club in Lanikai.

Kua shot a 66 in the first round on Thursday and opened up a three-shot lead at 13 under. Jared Sawada carded a 68 on Friday to move to 10 under and first-round leader Damian Telles is another stroke back after signing for a 70 in the second round.

Mid-Pacific Institute senior Zackary Kaneshiro is tied for fifth overall and leads the championship flight at 4 under. David Ishii is also at 4 under and leads the senior division.

The A- and B-flights were suspended due to rain and are scheduled to resume today at 6:30 a.m. The third round is scheduled to start at 10 a.m.

Hawaii Hilo swept on road

The Hawaii Hilo baseball team was swept by California Baptist 9-8 and 2-1 in a PacWest road doubleheader at Totman Stadium in Riverside, Calif.

The Vulcans (8-24, 8-22 PacWest) amassed 15 hits in game one and were led by Kyle Yamada’s game-high three hits to go along with two runs and a walk. UHH led 8-7 in the bottom of the ninth until John Glenn’s two-run walk-off home run for the Lancers (31-15, 22-10). Hawaii Hilo fell victim to Andrew Bash’s pitching performance in game two. The Cal Baptist hurler scattered four hits while striking out five and walking one in a complete game effort.
