Mother and daughter die within minutes of each other in separate crashes
In a bizarre coincidence, a mother and her young daughter were killed within a half-hour of each other in separate crashes on the same road in Alabama.
Julia Patterson, 39, and her 8-year-old daughter, Elizabeth, died Tuesday morning on Alabama 117, according to al.com.
Patterson was killed when her Ford Explorer slammed head-on into a Dodge Ram truck at about 10 a.m. Hawaii time, the Chatanooga Times Free Press said. Patterson died at the scene, and the two occupants of the truck were hospitalized.
Seven miles away and about a half-hour later, Elizabeth was struck by a Ford Focus and died at the scene, the Times Free Press said. She was crossing the highway when the incident occurred, media reported.
Coworkers of Elizabeth’s father, Kevin Patterson, set up an online account for donations, al.com said.
The fundraising website said donations would help with expenses.

“The last thing we want is for him to have to worry about that,” the organizer wrote. “We want him to have plenty of time to grieve and take the time he needs away from work to heal.”
In what appears to be Kevin Patterson’s Facebook account, he said that Elizabeth turned 8 on Saturday.
“I can’t believe this is real,” he wrote. “Tell me this is just a bad dream, please God!”
