Both the men’s and women’s basketball teams from Hawaii Pacific received bids into the NCAA Division II basketball tournament, as announced by NCAA headquarters Sunday evening.
The men’s team (28-2), as the Pacific West Conference regular-season and tournament champion, received the second seed in the West Region. The Sharks face No. 7 seed Sonoma State (Calif.) in Friday’s quarterfinal at UC San Diego’s RIMAC Arena, with a tip-off scheduled for 12:30 p.m. Hawaii time. This is the second NCAA tournament appearance for Hawaii Pacific, which last appeared in the 1999 men’s tournament.
For the women’s team (21-6), the Sharks received the eighth seed in the West Region. They face the top seed and host Alaska Anchorage on Friday at 6:30 p.m. Hawaii time at the Alaska Airlines Center. This is the second NCAA tournament for Hawaii Pacific, which last appeared in the 2015 women’s tournament.
Both the men’s and women’s regionals run Friday and Saturday, with the championship set for March 13.
