Women’s marches in protest of the Trump presidency are happening in many cities today. In Lihue, Kauai, the demonstrators have decided demonstrations can be more relaxed, almost friendly.
The “Up Da Hill” march, from Hardy and Rice streets to the Historic County Building, is really more of a “walk,” the organizers said in an online posting, “as we will be using the sidewalks.”
“Elderly and kupuna and disabled or those that do not wish to walk can remain in the public park,” they added. Plus: No profane signs, please. And oh, yes: A potluck picnic will follow.
Protest, but don’t be mean.
Legal mess left by molasses spill cleaned up
Who knew commerce could go this sour?
But of course, a lot of a good thing — molasses — can do terrible damage when it’s deposited in the wrong place: Honolulu Harbor. The 2013 spill by Matson Terminals Inc. fouled the water, killing 26,000 fish and other marine life. It cost the company $725,000 in the most recent civil damages awarded, on top of the $1 million in criminal fines and restitution. The best news: Matson won’t transport molasses through the harbor any more. Sweet.
