Celebration of life announced for local filmmaker, kumu hula

A celebration of life for filmmaker and kumu hula Keo Woolford is scheduled for Jan. 28 at Kaneohe’s Ko‘olau Ballrooms and Conference Center, 45-550 Kionaole Road.

Woolford, the writer and director of 2013’s “The Haumana,” an independent film that received a Na Hoku Hanohano Award for its soundtrack, died Nov. 28 following a stroke. He was 49.

He was in the pre-production phase of “The Haumana 2” and preparing to announce an open casting and crowdfunding campaign.

The Saint Louis School graduate also had a recurring role as Detective James Chang in “Hawaii Five-0.” He had recently graduated as a kumu hula from renowned kumu Robert Cazimero of Halau Na Kamalei o Lililehua.

Woolford is survived by his father, Dwight Woolford; brother, Brian Woolford; sister Wendy Pasion; and niece Raeceen Woolford Satele.

Visitation is scheduled for 8 a.m. Jan. 28, with a program at 10 a.m. and fellowship at 11 a.m.
