Viewers of “tiny home” TV shows routinely marvel at the creative uses of space that allow residents of such homes to live comfortably. Versatile, multi-use furniture and fixtures are must-haves.
Now, compact living will be coming to Kakaako, with this week’s approval of the Nohona Hale tower squeezing into a 10,409-square-foot lot. The 14-story high-rise will contain 107 studios, each about 300 square feet small, plus a 40-square-foot lanai. The project is due in three years, is government-financed to the tune of $50 million and aims to be truly affordable. Units will be rented to those earning no more than 60 percent of Honolulu’s annual median income: that works out to $42,240 for an individual, or $48,240 for a couple — two skinny people, probably, given the space.
Golfing weather predicted for weekend
A voggy weekend with weak winds may not sound like ideal weather conditions for most of us — but then, most of us aren’t professional golfers.
No doubt the lack of Waialae’s usual breezes helped Justin Thomas score a Sony Open record 11-under-par 59 on Thursday.
If this kind of weather holds through the weekend, expect to see more good golf. But if you go out to watch or play — or enjoy other outdoor activities — don’t forget the sunscreen. And for those with respiratory problems, don’t stay out too long.
