It says something that, as the Republican leadership in Washington seems poised to repeal the Affordable Care Act — Obamacare — there’s an uptick in enrollments for the federally subsidized health plan.
That goes for Hawaii as well, which has relatively few uninsured and a history of broad coverage.
It says that people find it worthwhile to get a deal on health insurance, even if it’s only for a year. Of course, it also suggests people are hoping the notion of yanking coverage from 20 million or so — many of them registered voters — may stay the hand of Congress, at least for a while.
Stamp will honor hunting in Hawaii
An art contest is soliciting paintings that depict a hunt for game birds and game mammals for the next Hawaii Wildlife Conservation and Game Bird Stamp. Shaya Honarvar, game program coordinator the state Department of Land and Natural Resources, Division of Forestry and Wildlife, said in a news release: “We would like to portray that hunting can be a great activity for the whole family.” The whole family? Such togetherness brings to mind a Norman Rockwell sort of image from, say, six or seven decades ago.
Honarvar conceded in the release, “In general, the numbers of hunters are decreasing worldwide, and the younger generations are becoming less interested in hunting.”
If you’re the artist to update the activity’s image, send email to Jason.D.Omick@hawaii.gov or call 587-4159 for more information.
