President Barack Obama and his family spent three sunny hours at the beach at Bellows Air Force Station on Tuesday.

The president began his day as usual with a workout at Semper Fit, the gym at Marine Corps Base Hawaii. After the workout he returned to his beach-side vacation rental on Kailuana Place.

The family arrived at Bellows at about noon and left just after 3 p.m., according to the White House pool report.

Earlier, Obama called German Chancellor Angela Merkel to offer condolences and offer assistance in the wake of the Berlin Christmas market attack.
