Saint Louis quarterback Tua Tagovailoa was named the 2016 Gatorade Hawaii Player of the Year, it was announced on Monday.
Tagovailoa recently led the Crusaders to the first HHSAA Open Division championship over Kahuku. This season, the Alabama commit passed for 2,669 yards and 27 touchdowns and rushed for 727 yards and eight scores. He broke Timmy Chang’s record for Hawaii high school career passing yardage.
He is the 10th Saint Louis player to earn the Gatorade honor in football. That list included Chang in 1999, and most recently Marcus Mariota in 2010.
Tagovailoa is in the running for the Gatorade National Player of the Year, to be announced later this month.
