Chaminade senior Rohndell Goodwin was named the Pacific West Conference men’s basketball co-player of the week.
Goodwin was the first Silversword named to the Maui Jim Maui Invitational all-tournament team since 2012 after averaging 20 points per game against North Carolina, Connecticut and Tennessee. Goodwin shared the weekly award with California Baptist guard Michael Smith.
Hawaii Pacific senior Chauncey Orr was named PacWest defender of the week. Orr had four steals against West Coast Baptist and averaged 17.7 points, 7.7 rebounds and 6.3 assists in three HPU wins.
Free admission to Chaminade hoops
Admission to Chaminade men’s and women’s basketball home games will be free for the remainder of the Silverswords’ home schedule, according to the school’s website.
In lieu of an admission charge, the Chaminade Student-Athlete Advisory Committee will collect donations in any amount to the Make-A-Wish Foundation Hawaii.
Chaminade’s men’s and women’s teams open Pacific West Conference play today against UH Hilo at McCabe Gym.
Kemper advances in Vans World Cup
Billy Kemper was among the Hawaii surfers to advance on the opening day of the Vans World Cup on Tuesday at Sunset Beach.
Kemper won his heat to move on in the second event of the Vans Triple Crown of Surfing and the final event on the World Surf League Qualifying Series.
Carlos Munoz of Costa Rica posted the highest score of the day with an 8.17 in his heat. Punahou student Noa Mizuno, the Hawaii junior champion, was also among those who advanced to the second round.
Lay Day on Maui
Small surf at Honolua Bay led to a lay day at the Maui Women’s Pro on Tuesday. Event organizers will reconvene at 7:30 a.m. today to assess conditions for the final stop on the Samsung Galaxy World Surf League Women’s Championship Tour. When the conditions permit, competition will resume with the third round.
Wahine to host “Hoopla” fundraiser
Tickets are on sale for the University of Hawaii women’s basketball team’s “Hoopla 2016” fundraiser.
The event is set for Dec. 8 at the Hukilau Restaurant at the Executive Centre. Tickets are $100 per person and include two drinks and food. Corporate sponsorships are available for $1,500. Proceeds will go toward summer school expenses for players and travel costs for a foreign tour to Australia. Last year’s inaugural event raised $39,000 for the program.
Players will also receive their rings commemorating last season’s NCAA tournament appearance.

Arcano, Ngan win four-ball qualifier
Maui’s Justin Arcano and Justin Ngan won the U.S. Amateur Four-Ball qualifier with a score of 9-under-par 62 on Tuesday at Waikele Country Club.
The Baldwin seniors qualified for the USGA national championship for the second straight year. The U.S. Amateur Four-Ball is scheduled for May 27-31 at Pinehurst Resort in North Carolina.
