The fire started at about 4:50 p.m. in the 1100 block of Kaeleku Street, and two males were able to escape without injury, said Honolulu Fire Department Capt. David Jenkins.
About 35 firefighters responded and found smoke and flames coming from the garage. The fire was under control within 15 minutes and extinguished at 5:20 p.m.
A cause and damage estimate were unavailable. The American Red Cross was assisting those affected.
Maui firefighters tame 15-acre brush fire
Maui fire crews Thursday mopped up a 15-acre brush fire that had threatened to close the highway between Kahului and Lahaina.
The fire broke out Wednesday morning in the Olowalu-Ukumehame area mauka of Honoapiilani Highway. By 6 p.m. Wednesday the fire was 80 percent contained, a Maui County official said by email.
Fire helicopters kept the fast-moving blaze from spreading toward the highway, the county said.
