Mark Platte, news director at Hawaii News Now, will resign at the end of this year, and Scott Humber, assistant news director, will take over the top newsroom post Jan. 1.
Hawaii News Now is the television news operation for CBS-TV affiliate KGMB, NBC-TV affiliate KHNL and KFVE.
Hawaii News Now General Manager Rick Blangiardi announced the changes in a staff email Tuesday. He said Humber will “be assuming operational control of the newsroom immediately” with assistance from Platte until the end of the year.
Platte, who was editor of The Honolulu Advertiser before joining Hawaii News Now in 2010, will be moving to Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif., Blangiardi said.
Blangiardi said he will begin a national search immediately to find a new assistant news director.
